DVD Players

Short for digital versatile disc or digital video disc, a type of optical disk technology similar to the CD-ROM. A DVD holds a minimum of 4.7GB of data, enough for a full-length movie. DVDs are commonly used as a medium for digital representation of movies and other multimedia presentations that combine sound with graphics.

Krell

Great sound has to start with a great source. Much of what we've learned in designing our amplifiers and preamplifiers has also helped us create our award-winning line of CD, SACD, and DVD players.

The heart of any optical disc player is its digital-to-analog converter, or DAC. When audio signals are converted from digital to analog, the result is a current signal. Typical DACs immediately convert this to a voltage signal that conventional preamps can work with. Krell instead keeps the signal in the current domain, feeding it directly to our Current Mode circuitry and removing unnecessary circuitry in the process. The result is extraordinary clarity and transparency - a sound with the dynamics of digital audio and the delicacy for which analog sources are prized.

Our disc players are further distinguished by separate power supplies for digital, analog, and mechanical sections; extensive internal shielding to isolate the circuitry from electromagnetic interference; and robust toroidal power-supply transformers.
